It depends on the type and quantity of waste you have available to you, and what energy you want to produce.

The best method (if not exactly a 'technology') is not to produce the waste in the first place! Waste to energy is a notoriously inefficient conversion process ... and so one should be looking at this as a last resort after all waste minimisation and production process efficiency ideas have been exhausted.
