Why money for insulation and none for domestic renewable energy?

The government's recent answer to fuel poverty seems to have focussed entirely on insulation. I think it makes sense rather than giving more money to spend on more energy to adopt a more sustainable solution. But why not something to encourage domestic renewable energy installation?

I know the economics of domestic renewable appliances are always favourable but are there no tax breaks, grants available and if there is are they sufficient?

Graeme, I'm still finding my way around this subject at the moment but in short, help for domestic installations is very poor. My understanding at present is that there is only a £1500 grant available.
There is, however, a lot more help available for businesses, including free feasibility work, 80% funding towards designing a suitable scheme and soft loans and grants to help with implementation costs.
If anyone is interested in looking at a biomass installation and needs help with finding out about the available funding, please contact me and I'll endeavour to help.
Thanks Simon - good information that would be interesting to share on the network.

I was going to ask Lisa (who administers this site) to contact you and offer you the chance of being the subject of the member focus. Just need 100 words to say what ever you want i.e. search for installers or biomass funding and a logo. As with everything on this site this is free and we'll send it out to all members and feature you on the home page.

Quick intro to us - we're a marketing agency specialising in the environmental sector - we do everything from research and planning to web site and branding design. We are really, really good (in all modesty) - if you know anyone who would benefit pass on our details.

Good luck

Graeme
