The Environment Network

An on-line community for the environment sector

Hi, I run a fledgling sustainable procurement/ zero waste software application which helps to improve organisational environmental efficiency by reducing waste, improving space efficiency and improving procurement systems. Sunderland City Council have saved £7K, 4 tonnes CO2e and 2 tones of waste in 40 days using the software.

As I need rapid distribution and brand awareness I am considering seeking sustainability practitioners who already have good connections with individuals in large public and private sector organisations and offering Referral Commissions.

Although this will get the word out very quickly I am a bit concerned about others representing my product- and how my potential customers will view this.

I would be interested in your view of this, from a client point of view but also as consultants possibly looking to diversify slightly.

Yours sincerely and thanks in advance...

This looks really interesting - I've worked on a couple of similiar - franchise, distribution, reseller, agent type project before.

You have to let go at some stage of your great idea whether its employees or a third party but you can protect your brand by training those who are delivering it (possibly even charge), producing branding guidelines (not just the logo etc but how they will represnet your product), good contractual arrangements and try to get a buy-in - there is nothing like getting people motivated by asking them to pay up front for a licence or franchise (or even just to pay for training and promotional material)

Good luck Daniel - looks like an interesting product.
