The Environment Network

An on-line community for the environment sector

... why don't we use it?

Yesterday we ran our first Green Business Webinar. An interesting issue that arose was that, despite being in an alleged age of web interactivity, most delegates had never attended a webinar before, so there was quite a lot of trepidation. Webinars are cost effective, time effective and low carbon, so why aren't they more commonplace?

It's the same elsewhere. We have the technology for most knowledge workers to work from home, so why do we still have millions commuting to sit in front of a PC in a huge office every day? We have teleconferencing on our PCs - in Skype's case for free - yet many of us spend our time on the road heading to and from meetings.

On the wider scale, it has been estimated that we have all the technology we need to deliver sustainability - renewables, low carbon vehicles, zero carbon buildings to name but 3.

It must be more than economics - habit, identity, fear of the new?
